The All-Purpose 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer

The summer’s almost over, but you wouldn’t know it, stepping outside. As the heat persists, so do bugs, thirsty gardens, weeds, dirt-splattered recreati0nal toys, dusty windows, etc.– all perfect reasons to keep a One Stop Gardens 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer in the garage.

As attested by Harbor Freight customers, the durable 4-gallon backpack sprayer works great in the garden, spraying water, fertilizer, herbicide, pesticide, soil conditioner, kelp solutions and weed killer. Others use it for washing their boats, motorcycles and ATVs when hoses are not available. One customer said the backpack sprayer was perfect for carrying cleaner for washing their windows.

As deer hunters are fully aware,  the game have already started hitting the crops, preparing for the winter ahead.  Many hunters anticipate the season by creating food plots– cover crops planted for the express purpose of attracting and holding the deer (soybean and clover are both favorites)– which means they need to keep the area clear of weeds, grass and other noxious growth. The 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayer is perfect for transporting and spreading the weed & grass killer to the area.

Needless to say, the list of uses for the backpack sprayer ends with the imagination. You can use it to spray down dusty campsites, balconies, high-sitting wasp nests, sandy kids at the beach, out-of-reach sheds, fence lines, and so much more! And, at such a low price, there’s no excuse not to get one!

The Revolving Four Strikes Again!

Revolving Four Tray Bin

Crafters love the Revolving Four Tray Bin for its convenience and how easy it is to customize.

I’ve mentioned the Revolving Four Tray Bin before while covering crafting. It was featured a while back in the “4 Ideas for Crafting” piece.

Jennifer Ciriano of Jenns Doodles put magnetic tape around the sides of the spinner rack so she could decorate it with flair! She put all the buttons from her button collection along the sides so she could find them more easily. Check it out: http://jenns-doodles.blogspot.com/2012/08/badge-button-flair-whatchamacallits.html.

Spinner Rack with Flair

cute AND functional

What a great idea! This could be used for catching odds and ends like paper clips, sewing needles, even scissors or needle nose pliers. It wouldn’t be quite as cute, but it would certainly make the revolving bin even more useful for crafting and craft storage.

And if you aren’t convinced yet of the utility of this bin, Natasha Z Hensel of Clever Soiree put together this great video review of it. It gives you a much better sense of the proportion and capacity of it.

Sol Train

Great Caesar’s ghost– what IS that?!

It all started when Michael Jordan a.k.a. “Big Moe” decided to power his barn. He’d been using it as a workshop for his cars and other projects, and he wanted to get juice over there without having it tied to the grid. The barn did, in fact, have its own meter, but Big Moe opted to keep it turned off. Instead, he started clipping Harbor Freight coupons and bought 45 Watt Solar Panel Kits. After a year, he had purchased 45 kits– that’s 135 solar panels!

“I could have purchased larger panels from other sources, but I felt that the affordability and flexibility of buying from HF was better for my budget.”

Big Moe then created an on-roof rack system and installed all of the solar panels to it. Once the system was built and all the bugs were worked out of the inverters and battery banks, he found he had a lot more power than he needed in the barn. But, he made sure none of it went to waste.

“At that point I decided to also power my house. I now power my home and my barn from the HF panels. To be fair, I do not power the home 100%. I still run all of the 220v appliances from the grid, but all other aspects are run from my solar arrays.”

How Big Moe Did It

  • The solar system consists of two arrays with a total of 135 HF 15w panels (75 panels on array #1, 60 panels on array #2).
  • 2 @ 80 amp solar charge controllers
  • 12 @ 2v batteries in a single battery bank that holds 2220 AH of power.
  • 1 @ 5000w pure sine inverter for the barn.
  • 2 @ 3000w pure sine inverters for the house.
  • 1 @ Chicago Electric 400W Continuous Power Inverter for an outside security light
  • The panels are wired in series/parallel in sets of 3. This allows for a 43v input at load and 62v open circuit voltage. The controllers drop the voltage and up the amperage for the 12v battery bank.
  • 2/0 welding cable for wiring and the battery bank is connected to each other using copper bus bars.
  • 2 @ wind generators to help diversify for wind and solar. They are a 600w and a 800w wind & solar unit.
  • The wind generators are connected to one wind and solar charge controller.
  • The power to the home is fed through service wire to a breaker box that is located in the home, but is seperate from the standard breaker box.

He can feed any circuit in the home with either grid power or his own alternative power. So if the battery bank is running lower he is able to selectively change circuits from alternative to grid power.

Been thinking about adding a power source to your property, campsite or other location? Consider Harbor Freight’s solar panel kits, individual 15 Watt Solar Panels and other Chicago Electric solar power equipment for your project!

A Harbor Freight Ghost Story

As I’ve mentioned, the Mrs. and I are trying to fortify our emergency supplies. We recently brought home a generator inherited from my father-in-law, an old 1500-watt unit. And while we were happy with the new acquisition, we soon learned it was only good for minor applications– tailgating, camping, backyard parties– so we decided to shop for a new, bigger generator and use this one as a supplement.

Now, I’ll study the HECK out of a product before I buy– professional reviews, customer comments and forums are must reading. If you’re like me, you think customer reviews are the best, especially when there are several of them for a product, and most of them agree. The Predator gas generators at Harbor Freight all have high-star ratings, so I dove into their reviews. Most of them were what you’d expect: “very pleased…” “well constructed…” “powered everything with no problem…” “works great and costs a lot less…”

But then, I stumbled on a particular review, and a chill crept up my spine. I turned down the AC and read on.

It was from the West Houston Paranormal Society, a dedicated group of otherworldly investigators who hunt and engage the unknown:

“We are West Houston Paranormal Society and this is our official generator. Running power where we need it in powerless buildings and houses that we investigate. It runs our equipment (cameras, audio, trip sensors, monitors, DVRs, computers, recharging packs, etc) throughout the house, as well as our trailer base command/review center. Fist pull operation, no drain or surges and super quiet…. the last thing we need is a loud generator interfering with our EVPs and video evidence, that is why we chose this one because that was high on our list of NEEDED features.” Caps included.

Why the Predator generator? Could it be it resonates with beings from across the veil? Or, is it the high-quality performance and low prices? Perhaps it’s all of the above.

The Mrs. and I ended up going with the Predator 8750 Watts Max/7000 Watts Rated Portable Generator, certified for California (4.5 stars, 13 reviews). It has the necessary power to juice our gas furnace, refrigerator freezer, AC, microwave, TV & lights… a little more than the “bare minimum” we had originally planned to get, but I’m sure we’ll be glad when the emergency (and the other stuff) goes down.

The Predator generator isn’t the only Harbor Freight product of choice among paranormal investigators. The Southeastern Paranormal Society, located in Salisbury, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC, and the good folks at IHuntGhosts.com, favor the motion-activated Bunker Hill Security 4-Camera Surveillance DVR when looking into poltergeists and sundry presences. A representative at the SPS commented:

“I bought this package to do surveillance for our paranormal research group. The cameras perform great in near pitch black conditions. Considering buying another system for our group.”

Everyone who’s seen those paranormal movies knows why this is an important contribution to the investigative process (on the other hand, I’m not sure I want to know what’s going on in my house when I’m asleep).

On My Para: The Paranormal Social Network, a forum member recently recommended the Cen-Tech Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer for measuring the ambient air around “cold” and “hot” spots. While so-called “professional” ambient air thermometers cost around $130, Harbor Freight’s is just $39.99. Boo-yah!

The owner of Paranormal Adventure Radio recommends the Bunker Hill Motion Detector as “good for basic investigations.”

Here’s a particularly unnerving thread about using a wireless inspection camera ” for “tight spaces” and “a very good idea for a room that has noises coming from it with the door closed.” The forum member who recommended the Cen-Tech Digital Inspection Camera was using his to check out a mausoleum he’d been curious about.

Finally, as Ghost Journeys advises in its Investigation Guidelines:

“Shop smart – save money. Check… Harbor Freight for mini LED flashlights, batteries and hard cases to tote your equipment.”

So, when it comes to quality tools at incredibly low prices… who you gonna call?
