Light Up Your Life with the 5 LED Magnetized Head Lamp

These days it can often be difficult to find the time to read.  Even though there are more options than ever with e-readers and books on your Smart Phone, nothing replaces a real, traditional book that you can hold in your hands.  Of course, when it comes to reading physical books, many people read right before bed which can be a strain on the eyes if you don’t have proper lighting.  But with the Five LED Magnetic Head Lamp from Harbor Freight Tools, you’ll have all the clean, clear light you’ll need to knock a chapter or two out before hitting the sack!

While the Head Lamp is the perfect accessory for celebrating National Literacy Day, it’s also a great tool for much, much more.  This handy illumination tool lets you work in dark or dimly lit areas, lights your way during a late night stroll, or helps visibility while hunting for wood when camping.  And best of all, it keeps your hands free.  Whether you’re working under the hood or holding a book comfortably in bed, the Head Lamp is a tool that does exactly what you need it to do.  And with the comfortable head strap, don’t be surprised if you even forget you’re wearing it.

The Lamp is designed with five bright white LEDs that provide ultimate illumination and the 45 degree angle wide beam covers a wide area.  And nothing is more important than a wide, clear field of view when you need it.

You might also be wondering where the “magnetic” feature comes in.  Well, this head lamp doesn’t have to stay on your head!  The lamp features a magnetized base that allows you to disconnect it from the strap and stick it on any metal surface.  Stick it under the hood of your car, the top of your toolbox or practically anywhere that will help you shed some light on the task at hand.  The head lamp is designed to provide the light you need just about anywhere.  Of course you don’t have to take my word for it.  Here’s what customers have to say:

“This is a great light. I have had it for a couple years and use it anytime I need a flashlight. It is pretty bright. I took it camping last weekend and it easily lit up an area at least 25 feet away.” — Mikey

“I can easily see my dog at night when she’s wearing this and it perfectly lights up where ever she points her nose.  Just put it on her neck upside down compared to how you’d wear it.” –Aloysius

“To sum it up, the LED headlamp is a terrific item. No more dropped flashlights. Both hands are free to work and hold onto tools, or, for safety, grab something to avoid a fall.” –Chris

Never be left in the dark again!  The Five LED Magnetic Head Lamp is just the ticket for keeping your work space or book well-lit while keeping your hands free.  And at just $4.99, it won’t put a damper on your budget either.

4-Camera Surveillance DVR – Protection Against Intruders, Vandals, Ghosts & (sigh…) Zombies

Living on a cul-de-sac (which is French for “butt of the sack”– which, at least for me, is good to know in case a Frenchman ever asks where I live) in the ‘burbs does not preclude one from falling victim to B&E, home invasion, vandalism, property theft, puppy dumps, etc. Usually when it happens you wake up in the morning, or come home from work, and not have a clue as to who did it, let alone what all was done. It’s a cruddy, violated feeling, however minor it might be. Don’t be that guy.

The 8 Channel Surveillance DVR with 4 Cameras and Mobile Monitoring Capabilities from Bunker Hill Security is an effective, low-cost solution to keeping your castle safe and monitored. Able to be installed indoors or outdoors, it’s your silent guardian… your watchful protector. And with its state-of-the-art infrared technology– enabling to record clearly after bedtime– it’s also your dark knight. Protecting your property and possessions with security cameras is a tried-and-true method of deterring trespassers, burglars, and even those bonehead neighbor kids who think terrorizing you with pranks doesn’t exact a price. And on top of preventing break-ins and vandalism, surveillance cameras enable you to respond swiftly to nefarious activity before and after it’s in progress.

The Bunker Hill 8-camera DVR, sold exclusively at Harbor Freight Tools, gives you access to your entire camera system from a PC or smartphone, so you can view your live video feed while you’re away from home. Imagine going on vacation to Bali (or more likely your brother-in-law’s in South Dakota) and still being able to monitor your home and property. This home security surveillance system features a remote control for easy navigation and a huge 500 GB hard drive which allows you to record, play back or transmit video from wherever you are. Now that’s empowerment.

Security cameras should be installed in at least one of these four strategic areas:

Front Door:  Mounting a camera over or near your front door is key to identifying everyone who approaches there, including expected visitors, delivery drivers and other service professionals.  Think of it as Caller ID for your house. Plus, according to FBI statistics, roughly 34% of all break-ins occur at the front door.
Back Door: Back doors are every bit as important as front doors, and often more vulnerable because the perp is out of sight.  Cameras should be installed above the door, either inside or out, to monitor for any usual activity.  You can put surveillance cameras on the eaves of the roof, outdoor overhangs, soffits, etc.
Indoors:  Where do you keep most of your good stuff? For us it’s the family room: It’s where we keep our big screen TV, Blu-ray player, PC computer, XBox, Lladro (my wife made me add the last thing)… and if I came home and found the Barcalounger missing, I’d be a bona fide menace to be around. It’s a good idea to also place surveillance cameras indoors to watch over valuable items. Also, cameras in living rooms, kitchens and above the staircases monitor, not only intruders, but also house cleaners, contractors, caregivers and babysitters.  If anyone manages to get past the front or back door, an indoor security camera can serve as a reliable back-up in capturing the face of anyone who’s up to no good while in your home.
Garages and Sheds:  If you have a multi-car garage, carport, guest house, pool house, or shed on your property, put an additional camera in that area, too, as it’s an easy, natural place for someone to “hole up,’ as it were.

If you’re still wondering if this set-up’s right for you, here’s what a couple of homeowners had to say about it:

“GREAT!!! The house for sale across the street from mine (nice suburban neighborhood) was hit by vandals a week ago (graffiti mostly), most of the neighbors think it is some local kids (most are good kids, but are KIDS nonetheless, and can get into trouble) Fearing my own new paint job, I bought this system to install before I left town for a vacation. Sure enough, when I got home there was some new artwork on my garage door. Well, the cameras worked great, the night vision gave me a clear enough image to recognize the “artists” and call their less-than-thrilled parents. The kids are now repainting all the houses they hit and are in serious trouble with their parents. As a close-knit neighborhood we decided not to press charges, as long as they cleaned up their mess. Great cameras, love them, and plan on buying a second system for my business next week.”  Billy, Michigan

“Love how EXCELLENT the night time video is for seeing people in pitch darkness, best camera I have seen so far. With my cameras in total darkness I can see at night around 50 feet, no trouble, making out people and animales. I have told all my friends looking to get a security DVR system to purchase this setup.”  Danny O, Florissant, Missouri

“This system is great! After having professional security companies quote me 3k to 4k on a 4 camera system I wanted an alternative. I was concerned that 60-ft of cable per camera was not going to be enough but everything worked out. I can now watch my business(which is 200 miles away) over my computer or Iphone.”  mercerguy23, Georgia

On a side note, Harbor Freight’s surveillance DVR is used by various organizations in the investigation of paranormal activity. Because of its night vision, motion activation and mobile-monitoring capabilities, it’s apparently the ideal equipment for nailing poltergeists, specters and the odd cherubim. As a representative of the Southeastern Paranormal Society commented:

“I bought this package to do surveillance for our paranormal research group. The cameras perform great in near pitch black conditions. Considering buying another system for our group.”

If you enjoyed the Paranormal Activity movies as much as I did, you might think it sounds like a fun experiment to try, setting up the Bunker Hill Security DVR in your bedroom. But before you do, just think about it first.  Do you really WANT to know if there’s something swinging open doors and looking at you while you’re asleep?

Tool Review: Harbor Freight’s Digital Inspection Camera

I went into my local Harbor Freight Tools store and picked up a Digital Inspection Camera with 2.4″ Color LCD Monitor. It takes 4 AA batteries (not included), so I picked up a 24 pack of AA batteries from Harbor Freight as well for under $6 bucks – great price and now I have back up batteries! Some online recon revealed that competitive brands of inspection cameras with monitors were exorbitantly higher priced than the Harbor Freight version at under a $120. Would the Digital Inspection Camera from Harbor Freight deliver on its claims? That was my mission and I chose to accept it–fortunately, the  Camera did not self destruct in five seconds.

Make easy visual inspections even in hard-to-reach places

The packaging claimed that with this device, I could “make easy visual inspections, even in hard-to-reach places.”  I couldn’t count the number of times I’d dropped hardware into the abyss of heavy machinery or needed to inspect behind a wall before drilling into it. And then there’s dropping keys that somehow get kicked under a shelving unit with 40 metric tons of equipment on it. Hopefully, the Digital Inspection Camera could help remedy these types of situations.

The light at the end of the camera provides the 4 ft. night vision as described previously and also illuminates the tight spaces you’re in, which are usually dark. This became especially useful as I soon discovered.

The monitor is amply sized at 2.4″ and provided easy viewing but to document my adventure, I utilized another useful feature of the device. With the included video cable, I was able to plug the device into the video-in port on my wide screen TV. Then I practically had theater viewing.

Once you start using the Digital Inspection Camera with 2.4″ Color LCD Monitor, you’ll never know how you lived without it! The device is easy to assemble and operate. The lighted camera integrated into the end of a three foot flex hose provides excellent maneuverability in hard-to-reach areas, and the monitor picture is clear and detailed. The attachments are extremely useful! The hook is ideal for locating/feeding wires behind walls or behind equipment. The magnet is effective in picking up fallen hardware and even small tools. The angled mirror allows you to view underneath places where you would not be able to bend the flex hose.

From plumbing and electrical work to retrieving lost items and viewing places that are otherwise inconvenient or inaccessible to reach, you owe it yourself to get the Digital Inspection Camera with 2.4″ Color LCD Monitor.
